Mark Okern

Mark owes his initial love of photography to his late grandmother's subscription to National Geographic. As a child, he read and reread issues until the covers were barely attached. It didn't occur to him until years later that she probably was saving them for exactly that purpose.

Inspired by photographers such as W. Eugene Smith and Robert Frank, he believes in the ability of photography as a visual narrative to bring people together via seeing and thereby better understanding each other’s stories and motivations.

Born in the frigid upper Midwest, Mark continues to make his home there.
